First Steps in being an Internet Entrepreneur

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:19 am

I wrote this post for my mom’s blog, jansideas.com, about a month ago and thought it would be nice to post it here too.

It takes dedication, delayed gratification, and education.

Are you ready for a change in life? Do you want to become an Internet Entrepreneur however it all seems overwhelming? That is why you’re here, right? Either your really bored or you want to learn from Jan’s Blog. If you’re just bored, I heard running in circles until your dizzy is fun.

Today, you’ll be learning the first steps in becoming an Internet Entrepreneur, Internet Publisher or whatever you want to call yourself. :)

Developing your website
Of course you already know, you must develop a website if you want to become an Internet Entrepreneur. First you will need to purchase a hosting account, which is basically a big computer (server) that stores your site on, allowing people to access it. I would recommend buying a hosting plan at GoDaddy, which is under $5.00 a month. You know you can afford that! Now, go do it now… don’t wait get started! I’ll be waiting right here. Waiting… waiting… waiting… Are you back from getting your hosting account? I hope so. With your hosting plan in your pocket, lets go register a domain. Again I would recommend using GoDaddy because it’s simple and easier to manage when it’s in the same place. Seeing that you’re just starting out, you should buy a .info site. They’re only $0.99. This way you can test the waters with out sacrificing to much money. You know what you need to go do… get your butt over to GoDaddy and register yourself a domain. Once again, I’ll be waiting…

Template vs. unique design
At this stage, you have two options to choose between using a template or start from scratch and create your own layout. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. With a template the advantages are: requires a low amount of knowledge of HTML, php, and programming, quicker to get the site developed, and easier to manage. The disadvantages are: there will be other sites that look similar, less options to customize. As a beginner you might be better off using a template because it will help you get started quicker and get your site online. I use oswd.org to get simple templates.

Getting the Content
Do you think you must be an expert on the topic before writing about it? That is very far from the truth. In school, were you an expert on the topics for your articles that your teacher had you write? Of course not! Basically, you’ll be doing the same with your site. The first step is finding a 1 main topic and 5 sub topics. For example would be:

Main Topic
– Bikram Yoga

Sub Topics
– Bikram Yoga DVD
– Bikram Yoga Posture
– Bikram Yoga Mats
– Bikram Yoga States

Are you thinking? I have know nothing about Bikram Yoga and thinking is it a type of yogurt? Don’t worry and remember what I said before, “You do not have to be an expert”. All you have to be able to do is know how to research any topic. Ok. Back to the topic and sub topics. The main topic will be your home page with around 400-words article and the sub topics will separate pages on the site with each article having at lease 450-words. Now, it all matters how quick of a writer you are but writing these article should take you no more than a week. If you can write faster, that would be great. I’ll wait for you for a week…. Day 1… Day 2… Day 3… Day 4… Man! I’m getting bored. Day 5… Day 6… Day 7.

That was the longest week of my life! Now, you should be done with the articles. Adding the articles to your template is very easy. All you have to do is copy the article in to the coding of the site. If you need to learn how this is done, you need to just Google it.

Well done. You have just finished a step to be an Internet Entrepreneur. Pat yourself on the back. Go ahead you deserve it. I’ll see you on the next step, which is earning your income.

Earning the Income
I was thinking about it… You probably not want to waste you’re time reading and learning how to make the money. You only want to develop the site and enjoy it. Right? I would be retired if I thought that. Obviously the only reason your becoming an Internet Entrepreneur is to grow the magical growing green tree, wait not that kind of tree, the money tree that allows you to put loads of cash in your pockets. The first step is signing up for the following Advertisers, which will pay you to put their advertisement up on your site.

Pay Per Click (PPC)
PPC is when you get paid each time some one clicks on the advertisment.

Adsense
Yahoo Publisher
Bidvertiser

Paid Per Month (PPM)
PPM is when someone pays you to have a link on your site and they pay monthly. Actually I don’t think it is officially called PPM but I like to call it that.

Text Link Ads

Affiliates
Affiliates normally pay you if someone purachases an item from your affiliate link which is on your site.

Copeac
Commission Junction (CJ)

Of course there are many even hundreds of other advertisers but I would recommend starting from this list and eventually grow your sources of income so you don’t get over whelmed. Don’t expect instant income from your site. Once in your lifetime actually respect and understand “Delayed Gratification”. If making income online were simple and quick, everyone would be rich.

I hope this article on becoming an Internet Entrepreneur has helped you understand the beginning steps. You might be thinking this is too difficult but stop it. Everything in life is difficult if you don’t know how to do it but after you learn normally it isn’t so difficult. I’m only going to say it one more time… You know what you need to go do!
