Today, I’ve been focusing on understanding the CMS program, cutenews. Its been a challenge! The most difficult challenge was developing the Flash Game Archive page - having each arcade flash game link destination to a new page - but I finally figured out how to. Learning how to use cutenews for the first time is much more difficult than I thought it would be. The Design of the site is pretty much the same but the Backend on adding the CMS is about 80% done. The next challenge will be adding more content, the games, meta tags and the design.

Gameoftheday.net - Update (1)
Ready for the first update on the progress of gameoftheday.net? Well… I’m having some trouble adding Cutenew (CMS). The problem is that when I click on the category flash game link on the homepage it only refreshes the homepage instead of going to the game page. Keep in mind; I’ve never done this before. So it’s a learning experience. All I say to myself, “I can do it†because anything is possible if you believe in yourself. I’ll keep everyone updated on the progress of the CMS.
Today, I started on the “Research popular keywords and add more content” on the to do list. The first step is to use Adwords to find good paying keywords related to flash/arcade games. This is what I found:
Arcade flash games - $2.10
Arcade video games - $3.68
Classic arcade games - $4.25
Flash racing games - $2.10
Racing flash games - $3.46
After finding these keywords, I wrote this on the home page:
Title: Arcade Flash Games
Description: Need new arcade flash games to play? gameoftheday.net is your source to daily updated arcade flash games with classic, racing, action, shooting, and puzzle flash games. You’ll never be bored again with all these games! Need more, checkout the archive page to see all the past arcade flash games in our collection to keep you busy.
I’ll probably add more content but this will be enough to get the site started.
I forgot to mention that gameoftheday.net is making under $1 a month so we’ll find out what adding a CMS a little bit of promotion can do in improve the site’s income.
Question by Dennis: Just curious… why cutenews and how did you find it?
Answer: I selected cutenews because I found it on Jon Waraas’s Blog. It seemed like a good CMS to start with seeing that I’ve never used a CMS before.

Redesigning - Gameoftheday.net
To help my readers (you), I’ve decided to explain how I’m going to add a CMS (Content Management System) and promote one of my sites, gameoftheday.net. I understand, you might not have a site like this one but you could use these strategies to improve one of your other sites.
This site has been in my network (not network toolbar) for about a year on the back burner because its been to difficult to update the flash games on a daily bases. The CMS will allow me to add new flash games to a future publishing date.
I’ll be using the CMS program, cutenews. I’ve never added a CMS for a site before so I’m excited in figuring out how too.
To Do List
Development
- Redesign the layout to implement 336×280 Adsense Ads.
- Add a newest game area on the homepage.
- Possible changing the color scheme and layout.
- With the CMS, have the flash games auto update.
- Redevelop the archives.
- Research popular keywords and add more content.
Promotion
- Add it to the network toolbar.
- Promote it on Adengage with $50.
- Submit to 100 directories for $5.
- Link Exchange with 15 related sites.
This is the beginning screen shot of gameoftheday.net.
I’ll keep you updated on the process. If you have any question, just post a comment and I’ll answer it.

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, readers! Can you feel the wonderful sprit of the holidays floating in the air? Well… I can. I can also taste the sprit and it taste gooood! It has been such a nice relaxing day spent with the family. Last night, Meghan and I decided to travel about a hour and half to my mom’s house to celebrate Christmas at her place; even though, everyone has already opened all the gifts the past three days. I must of been a good boy because I received some great gifts from everyone such as my airsoft gun, shoes, bobschmuck.com, paper-shredder, and $100 gift card. No animals this year.
Ask and you shall be tagged!
After reading Jon Waraas blog and posting a comment about getting tagged, he posted a comment on my old blogger blog saying, ” Bob dude, I tagged you!”. I was dancing with joy… wait a sec, men don’t dance with joy. I was more like nodding my head and saying, “Yeah, that cool”. Anyways, this little game goes like this - If a person tages you, you must post your 2007 goals - very simple. A great guy, Jon Waraas, tagged me.

Growing into a network!
I would like to introduce you to my new network, “Growing Groundâ€. I’ve choose this name because the meaning is based on my websites being planted and grown from the ground up with each seed growing to become it’s own network, in the future.
The Network’s To-do List:
- Setup a website for the network.
- Tweak the design and logo.
- Finish adding it to all the pages of the sites in the network
- Setup a LLC, which I’m reading and learning about, now.
I would like talk about the sites in the network…
Schmuckgame.com
This Game site has grown from just 5 flash games as a seed in the beginning into a pleasant small plant with over 100 flash games. It’s my favorite site.
Theairsoftgun.net
This site has over 50 pages and growing. It has information on anything related to airsoft guns with content on equipment, types of guns, games, safety precautions and more…
GirlyGame.net
This game site was developed to target girly girls, who enjoy playing flash games with out blood or fighting. It’s actually my wife’s idea and site.
Talkingboard2u.com
This site is still in development with information on talking boards more well know as Ouija boards. It has a page on related names for talking boards, which is rather interesting.
Paintballsupport.com
This site will have loads of information of the extreme sport of Paintballing. It’s still in development; however, it already has a great amount of information that can help any person interested in this sport.
For the longest time, I’ve been trying to some what keep most of my sites a secret but recently realizing that anyone who really wants to find out the sites that I own can easy find out with a little bit of researching. This is why I’ve decided to uncover my sites and talk about them more often.

Visiting the park
We drove to the park because the city has been displaying around 50 different large Santa cutouts in a small area of the park. If you were wondering who took the picture, we both did… First Meghan took a picture of me and then I exchanged spots with her and took a picture of her. When we got home she used Photoshop to merge the pictures together.

Did you know? It does get cold in Arizona. In the picture it was about 32 degrees. We were freezing! We’ve always lived in Arizona so we aren’t used to cold weather. I’ll have some more pictures of actual snow tomorrow.

SEO: 301 Direct
Yesterday, I was reading Jon Waraas’s Blog on using a 301 Redirect on all of his websites. He explains that using this little tip will send you to http://www.sitename.com when you type http://sitename.com. This avoids search engines from giving http://sitename.com credit. Instead your main address will receive the credit. Basically, this little tip on improving your ranking will merge the two addresses into one.
How to do this?
You might be wondering how you can do this little SEO tip too. All you have to do is access your .htaccess page and add the following code.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(.*)\.sitename\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.sitename.com/$1 [R=301,L]
Replace “sitename†and “TLD” with your site’s name and TLD.
I’ve decided to begin adding this code to all of my sites too. I’ve already added the code to my two flash game sites. 2 sites down 16 sites to go!
