In order to succeed in the competitive field of affiliate marketing, it is essential to have an effective plan to help guide your efforts. Web development is the key factor that can elevate your affiliate business to the heights of success. Building a website designed to attract customers and promote products takes time, effort and creativity, but understanding the process can make it easier to achieve your goals.
What Is Web Development?
Web development refers to the entire process of building and maintaining a website, from the initial planning stages through the long-term management of the site. As you begin to build and grow your site, it is important to consider how web development will affect your affiliate marketing plan. Everything from your domain name to the content showcased on your site plays an important role in your affiliate marketing success.
Choose a Great Domain Name
The first step in utilizing web development to make your affiliate marketing plan a success is to choose a good domain name for your site. In many cases, your domain name will be the same as your business name, but there are also other possibilities to consider. For example, you may want to utilize a targeted keyword or keyword phrase in your domain name in order to improve search rankings and increase website traffic.
Focus on Designing an Appealing Site
In order to effectively market your affiliate offers, it is essential to have a website that appeals to your potential customers. By designing a site specifically with these users in mind, your affiliate marketing plan will be far more successful. Spend some time looking at the other websites that members of your target audience visit on a regular basis. Utilize what you learn to guide the overall design direction of your own site.
Remember That Content Is Still King
While it has long been said that great website content is the real key to success, it is a simple fact that should never be overlooked. Once you have registered your domain and designed an attractive site, your next task is to develop the web content that will draw potential customers to your website. The type of content you need varies depending on your affiliate offers and audience. Some potential content possibilities you should consider include articles, blogs, videos and podcasts.
Remember That Web Development Is an Ongoing Task
After building and launching your site, it may seem that you’ve done all the difficult work. However, web development is not a “fix it and forget it” process. In order to maintain your affiliate marketing success, it is essential to make development and maintenance part of your long-term commitment to your site and your customers.
Utilize what you have learned to respond to changes in the marketplace. Keep a steady eye on the competition and continue seeking new ways to meet the needs of your customers. By always staying focused on your web development goals, you can improve the power of your affiliate marketing plan.

Hi Emilia,
Excellent informative post. You cover some very important points that a lot of people overlook and then wonder why they are not having any success in affiliate marketing. Building a sales page/website for your product is more than just throwing any old thing together and hoping it works. You have to put the effort in, continually evaluate what is working and what is not. Choice of domain name is another excellent point. Often people will choose something that “sounds nice” but really adds no value. Getting the content right on the sales page/website in another great point. Often people lose the run of themselves here and oversell to the point of almost begging the customer to buy! Where people sometimes fall down and get discouraged is where they are unsure of how to bring this all together effectively. I’ve come across some very effective tools that compliment this overall process beautifully - MuVar (multivariate testing software that allows you to load up variables like headlines, product description etc., identifying those that are profitable), RaSof (allows you to score your webpage against a built in database for higher ranking on the selected search engine) and Nemeas (a statistical analysis ranking software for choosing superior domain names). Having the right tools in place is paramount to success and allows you to leverage your time better. It is important to never lose sight of who your customer is and always deliver exactly what they want. They will thank you for it and return to check out more of your products or services. My comliments on your own site, Emilia. I took a look at it and was very impressed.

I’ll second the recommendation for MuVar. It allows you to automatically test all of the variables of a presell page and increase conversions. I use it and it flat out works.
